McAfee is good for at least 2 more years unless they extend it.

Also does mbam still support xp

It is correct that they still support it at this time, but things are changing with a new Windows version soon to be released.

The answer I have been given basically (and I will post my answer if requested) is that as programs grow all can not be supported, but will be as long as it can be

They dropped Windows 2000 and will drop XP after a while, when new programs are taking over, so it is not guaranteed how long at this time.

I think (personally only) that it will be dropped after the next full version of Windows is released, and the program needs major updates.

The official reply given from MBAM just to make it clear, Re : Support for XP

- Quote=

MBAM 1.75 supports XP (obviously tongue.png) and 2.0 which is (was at that time) currently in testing also supports XP. Our other tools and products like MBAR, MBAE etc. also support XP and we have no plans on changing that. We know that a lot of people will continue to use XP for some time so we'll continue to offer products and tools to help secure those systems for as long as we can.

That doesn't mean there won't be bumps in the road though. For example, there are things we're able to do on newer Windows versions that just aren't possible on XP because the APIs do not exist, so even though we'll still function on XP and support it, XP may not always have all of the same features and enhancements that benefit newer operating systems. This is already evident in the way that website blocking in MBAM 1.75 functions on XP vs Vista/7/8/8.1 where it is unable to show the port and process initiating a connection to a blocked IP address.

edit: By the way, we didn't drop support for Windows 2000 until it was already several years past its 'official' Microsoft end of life date. We didn't drop it the second that MS did so that's no indicator at all of when we will drop support for an OS. It's all about numbers. When we dropped support for 2K it was because we saw based on our own installation statistics that less than half of a percent of users were running our software (even the Free version) on Windows 2000.

FYI: FileHippo has started offering downloads via Installers:
* Take care, FileHippo starts offering downloads via Installers!
* Is FileHippo Going To Introduce A 'Download Manager'?

What is the FileHippo Download Manager?

The FileHippo Download Manager delivers software straight from our supercharged servers to your computer. The Download Manager allows us to use multiple network connections at the same time to guarantee you the fastest, safest delivery possible.

During this process, the Download Manager may offer you other free applications provided by our carefully chosen partners. These offers are completely optional and you are not required to install any additional applications to receive the software you selected.
...
Do I have to use the installer?
No. All FileHippo Installer Enabled products have a Direct Download Link that you can use instead of the Installer.

Donna told me some time before that FileHippo has started bundling adware with their downloads.

I'd rather get my download somewhere else.

awesomecooldude101,

I like Filepuma (http://www.filepuma.com/). You can try this.

So, do your family have a Facebook? :)

quietman7, thanks for your recommendations. They ARE quality useful.

P.S. Still, the GUI of current Malwarebytes' is so ugly; I would NOT update the users with such a raw crude interface. Just wouldn't post it in a new version as a new version.

I included the FilePuma link in Post #39 as part of my list of safe third-party downloading hosting sites. However, in most cases, I recommend downloading directly from the vendor's site if it does not redirect to a "not so safe" third-party hosting site. CCleaner's download comes direction from their site. If you look around at the vendor's site sometimes they include a download page with other builds to include a standard full installer package, a slim version, and a portable version. I generally recommend (and use) portable versions of software whenever possible as they typically are stand-alone applications in a zipped version which do not bundle or install anything else. CCleaner's full installer (ccsetup***.exe) is bundled with a toolbar (i.e. Google, Yahoo), the portable version is not. Using even a safe third-third party downloading site may not provide the other builds.

CCleaner (other builds)
