Yes, yes, but why!? Is it a temporary outage for maintenance or upgrade? Internet service outage? Server crash? Billing issue? Office politics? Takedown notice?

That topic dates back to April. And it ends with reboot.pro coming back online a couple days later.

But the situation may be repeating.

Like "roytam1", I also ran a traceroute for reboot.pro, and it ended similarly with:

Hetzner is a Dedicated Web Server, Cloud, Storage & Hosting Provider, and you could try to contact the Hetzner Support Center and ask them why they are blocking reboot.pro with a Destination net unreachable error.

There is also an online search result on How to fix that Hetzner blocks a website with a Destination net unreachable error.

Good luck! :)

The hosting provider would need to unblock it.

Well, today, the traceroute for reboot.pro completes without ending at blocked.hetzner.com, but the site is still down in some other way.

When I tried to navigate to the site before, the connection would time out.  Now, it says "connection refused".  I hope this means the site is returning soon.

reboot.pro is still down.

A web search about reboot.pro hasn't been helpful. Nobody in the know seems to have posted about why the site has been down for months. No blog posts, no posts on other forums, no social media posts, nothing. It's sad.

Is this a one-man-show?  If so, make a prayer for the poor soul.  I tried to look for the ABOUT info at Wayback Machine, but it's kind of slow at the moment.  One thing is for sure, the domain name will be expired in two months if the owner doesn't renew the subscription, and if so, something bad happened.

What content was on Reboot.pro that you've never seen anywhere else. Maybe it's something that could be found somewhere else? If not identical content, perhaps analagous content?

Spellcheck must be turned off if "analagous" made it through. (It's "analogous".)

I suppose I should be honest and admit I haven't looked all that hard for alternative forums featuring RAM disk projects. In fact, I have actually not looked up much on the subject of RAM disks since I started using solid-state HDDs. I got really interested in the subject of a RAM disk as OS disk back in the Windows 9X days and even built a project of my own which was lightning-fast. I didn't publish it, but I did look at projects published by others on reboot.pro and its boot-land.net predecessor for Windows 9X and other operating environments/systems and even tried a few of those. I had not visited reboot.pro very often lately, but I would peek at it once in a while and was surprised when I learned it was having trouble staying online.

I see. I don't think you'll find a lot of RAMdisk projects around these days. RAMdisks were used largely when Windows was painfully slow because CPUs, and especially storage were less powerful in those days. As you know, hardware is drastically faster these days.

However, I"m sure you can some projects somewhere for RAMdisks.

And reboot.pro is still down. I guess it really isn't coming back, and it looks like I'll never learn why.

And reboot.pro is still down. I guess it really isn't coming back, and it looks like I'll never learn why.

reboot.pro is built on an extremely old version of version of Invision Power Board (same forum software this site runs on actually). The version requires an old version of MySQL that has issues with getting corrupted, which is why the site has been going down so much. It requires manual intervention to go in and repair the database, which the owner hasn't made time to do as he has other interests and is unable or unwilling to spend the time and $$$ to upgrade the software or perform a full scale migration to another.

It has been suggested a few times that it might be best to create a static archive of the forum and start it fresh on modern software (phpBB or myBB for example). Another idea if a static archive (basically creating .html copies of all the dynamic pages) was troublesome was to lock the forum to read only and run it in a container that would reset to a base image. This would leave it online as an archive, but work around the SQL corruption issues by resetting to a known good state at regular intervals.

so that's the why. I don't know the when if ever it will be repaired and come back online. It would be a huge loss for all those years of knowledge to disappear into the void.

In the meantime The Oven.org is still going strong, and a few bootlanders also still frequent Windows PE - MSFN

Thank you so much, Homes! It's wonderful to finally have an explanation about what's been happening!

The Oven looks interesting. I'll browse through it some time and see what kind of fun I can have there.

Thanks again!
