No need. highlight and uninstall worked fine.

I think I see some daylight here.

When I installed comodo, it hooked that service into the network drivers.

When Comodo uninstalled it left a dozen leftovers, and that service.

Delete the service or driver and the Nic thinks a needed driver is gone.

I will retry the autorun disable bit again.

Alright let me know how it goes. We should probably look for traces of COMODO left in the Registry after as well just in case. Manually of course and judge if what we find needs to be deleted or not.

Success, ever since I upgraded Emsisoft the uninstall for comodo was swiss cheese.

In researching this I saw several posts with the same issue. While this is not malware

is is a pain, and exactly why I started the program.

Hunting this rascal down, and I will edit the first post if I can, to show how checking that net tab properties

first can save time.

Cmdagent is  not running and I disabled 7 others. and the net is fine.

The file locations are easy C:\program files\comodo

and                                                         \geekbuddy

here are some snips from otl scan , just the highlights. If you want a whole scan we can,

It looks like we are both Juniors, I'm on Jr #6 at the moment.

There are  a few lines to clean up and I will delete the  outdated adobe tomorrow.

This is really bad to be honest. This kind of error is often due to system corruption. Are you able to run any programs as Admin?

When Win xp was abandoned I bought a new drive, installed Win 7 and migrated the old files.

After joining here I looked for the " best "  Av/firewall. Back then a lot of Bc peeps had Comodo and one of avast, antivir or others.

After a while I started having issues  between comodo and the antivir, some diagnostic tools and this net connection issue.

When Emsisoft was recommended here, and  Bc members were offered a nice discount I decided to dump comodo and

the compatibility issues.

Emsisoft had both firewall and Av together, no compatability issues.

But uninstalling comodo failed from the start, I searched the forums back then and found that many had the same issue.

Some fixes called for revo, file assassin , autoruns and otl fixes.

But each attempt resulted in broken net as we saw here.

I felt pretty good about narrowing the focus to the net drivers, although I did not know why orphan files could still be hooked into the system.

When you directed me to look at those properties\networking\drivers , bingo, there was the comodo fragment .

I would agree that the windows uninstall is corrupted.

Emsisoft, malwarebytes, Trend micro and Mcaffee all say no virus involved.

I did install crypto prevent last year, and I now run most days without admin, I only use admin when nessessary.

Did you want to help me id and clean up the remaining leftovers ?

My Bc student super powers are still under construction.

If so which log to use ? Otl, Frst ?

Jerry

OTL and FRST logs aren't allowed outside the malware removal area, even if it's for troubleshooting, so I cannot ask for these. Let's start by something simple: if you right-click on a program and select Run as Administrator, does it works or does it throws you the System Error message?

Ahhh, good to know,

As far as I can see, All functions work, admin, I have set to ask each time since I read that full time admin is bad idea.

Can you create a new user account quickly (make it Admin), then go in it and see if you can uninstall the programs properly? If your user account becomes corrupted, the fastest way is just to create another one, migrate your data to it and delete the old one. I do that daily at work (but these are roaming profiles so) :P

If you right-click on Computer then select Properties, in the System window, click on Advanced System Settings and click on the second Settings button (under Userprofiles). Select your Userprofile and you have the Copy data option. Or you can just copy/paste elsewhere all the data you have on your Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos and custom created folders on the userprofile folders.

In properties\advanced system settings\user profiles\settings

user-pc\gerald the copy to is greyed out, as is delete.

I don't see a copy data button under user profiles.

The button is Copy, sorry. I translated it from French and it seems that the "data" part isn't present in the English version of Windows. Then you can manually copy/paste all the data you want to keep between the two profiles.

Desktop to Desktop
Documents to Documents
Pictures to Pictures

And so on, if you understand what I'm explaining.
