Gas prices by July are set to hit 3.31 on average in SC.

I told my dad we should have bough 1k gallons when it was 1.72!

What are we going to do? This is eating us up on the farm. Our tractors eat fuel like people drink soda's! 7 gallons a hour or more in the field working!

If we dont get some relief and the people dont come out with new ways to travel this is going to hurt america big time!

This is rediculous! Why are they so high? Is our demand gone up so high gas has to double since January?

In a way yes but indirectly. The economy has gone up since January, which cause Trucking to increase since January, which increases fuel consumption exponentailly. Also figure in planting/growing/ and harvesting seasons coupled with vacation season.

Yea it was $3.19 this morning and now it's $3.39/3.49.

I filled up in a small town next to me for $3.39, before work today. I went out to the local mall and it was only $3.19!!! I was mad...

Too bad gas stations didn't price match competitors like department stores do.

Hi Cowsgonemad,

Just wondering if you can use 'purple gas' for your tractors at the cheaper rate per gallon for farmers? Or perhaps this is simply a Canadian thing?

In NZ it's about I think $1.50 per litre.
So about $5.80 per gallon.
Change that to USD then it's $4.2USD.
Aww... I thought we have it cheaper  ...
Back then we have like 80cents NZD per litre.
We should all play our part and don't use the car as much or buy a better fuel efficient car.
If we all do this then we can make a significant difference in reducing the carbon foot prints.

If you go back in this thread to this date last year you'll see that the crude and gas (RBOB) prices were even a bit higher. Actually within the next few days of those post oil will go to $77 /bbl. My point is with similar numbers the only reason to be paying more is in the refiners hands. Production is down. Various claims of damage, power outages and conversion to summer fuel (only legit one I think) are their reasons given. Every year the do the conversion and it causes the summer spike. This happens ,i've purchased contracts for it over the last ten years. BUT they know people drive more in summer and USED to produce more to protect against shortage. We hven't even hit huricane damage season yet. At this rate a category 4 in the Gulf could be price scary.

We do use the tax free diesel. Its still expensive. We used to get this stuff for like 1.20-1.50 just a couple of years ago. Now its like 2.40 or so I think. Now the pay per milk gallon has not went up so you can imagine how fun that is. I hear it is going to go up a little soon though. And it better or you wont find many farmers left in this country!

At the risk of offending every redneck in America, and a bunch of other people, I wonder how much gas is burned (wasted) every week in NASCAR and all the other car races in this country. Do you think if they stopped for a summer maybe gas prices would go down due to less demand?

Unfortunately, I believe the supply and demand issue here doesn't apply as much as it being a government regulated industry. Also, take a look at who we import oil from...they have a lot to do with the price. Buncha bullies!

Also...the tax on gas is absolutely asinine. I hope my governor here in GA will pass some legislation for a gas-tax-free summer. (I know, a fantasy....but here's hoping!)

You really want gas prices to drop...eliminate taxes and stop voting in the turds that want this industry to be regulated.

Yes, it's got to be frustrating, I'm sure. The entire situation, at least here in Canada, is nearly mind-boggling when it comes to farming. Even crop insurance is apparently horribly expensive and the cost of combines, etc, steadily increase. It seems little 'true' help is given to private farmers and the costs alone are driving many generation after generation family farms to end.

As per milk prices, if our government is sincere about caring for dairy farmer's futures - and ours - I think they should really subside heavily. Milk is sort of a 'basic' in so many homes with children and passing on the true costs to people may see the end to that.

Don't have any answers but I agree that the future of farmers is often less than secure.

Sorry but thats not all true.
You know all those miles of roads and bridges we have and the potholes they cost money every year to make and take care of. Without that 45-55 cent tax on a gallon how would they do it?

You know what we need? Is to redo the stupid DOT! Those people dont do squat and sit there for hours getting paid OUR tax dollars! I have seen this first hand.

If you save money it takes less to do whats needed.

The fact that we own the worlds largest oil field in Alaska and we dont use it boggles me. The politics talk about feeding the countries that attack us yet they wont even use the oil WE own! Make them buy from us!

You want gas prices to go down? It not because of races and nascar. What they have 30 races a season on nascar or less?

I think where most of the fuel goes is to the truckers. They haul our food and supplies in. Have you looked at a freeway lately? Its 30-40 percent or more trucks. The more you drive the more gas prices go up.

If america wants prices down dont use as much.

On top of that loose some weight. They said america could save like a billion dollars a year if each person in america that could would loose like 10lbs!
The more weight your car has to push....

Stop buying big suv's with 4wd that you never fill up and will never go offroad. We know a guy who bought a new suv and it is a crossover but its huge inside! it gets 26mph on the freeway. Not bad for a roomy suv.

Start walking and biking more. Stop making so many trips to the store. Buy for two weeks of food and not just 1 we do this.

There is a lot WE can do.

If I am not mistaken NASCAR uses alcohol and not gasoline, unless you are referring to the 500,00 fans that turn out for a race. Would that not make them... GREEN Machines? That also includes NHRA cars too.
