I have had a very interesting reply to my request at BC too:

Windows 7 has suitable drivers for the M2N-E, so looks like ASUS are content with that:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=ASUS%20M2N-E%20SLI%20motherboard&v=ASUS&uid=M2N-E%20SLI%20GREEN&l=en-US&pf=0&pi=5&c=Graphics%20Cards%20%26%20Components&sc=Other%20Components&vd=all&os=32-bit

Edit: I was also thinking about nForce drivers from nVidia, but I notice you've got that covered in the topic.

The BIOS has not been successfully updated:

Yes. Let's hope the BIOS update has an affect on the BSOD issue!
  • There may not be an update available for nvm62x32.sys if the nVidia site scan did not pick this one up?

All good news on the mobo/graphics drivers! :thumbup2:

FWIW: If the current drivers are damaged...it doesn't matter whether they are the most current or not...they cannot perform as they are expected to.

Which is why you uninstall them...reboot Windows and Windows will reinstall anew from its cache of drivers.

I installed Driver Detective http://account.driversupport.com/?cart=https%3a%2f%2fsecure.drivershq.com%2fregistration%2fdefault.aspx%3faf%3ddriversupport&wlID=0 on my computer and had it scan the computer. It found several drivers that were out dated and updated them.

however, the following driver(s) refuse to update --not sure they are appropriate on this computer

NVIDIA Storage Driver Information
----------------------------------
(WARNING - select CANCEL now if you do NOT want to install NVIDIA storage drivers)

The NVIDIA Storage driver consists of 3 components:

1) NVIDIA storage driver optimized for nForce SATA controller that will replace the driver that came with Windows.

2) A RAID controller driver which is required if SATA RAID is ENABLED in BIOS

3) RAID Manager application software

Note for Windows XP:

To install OS onto SATA disks when RAID is enabled in the BIOS, you MUST do the following:

- use the "-x" option with the package .exe to extract storage driver files
- follow instructions for Windows F6 install in "IDE\<os version>\driver\READMEF6.txt"

I'm still working on updating BIOS

computer seems significantly more stable atthis point

I would expect them to be appropriate and see no reason for the problem.

Try them again ... after successfully updating the BIOS.

Very good! I guess that, and the fact that you haven't given me any more minidumps to look at, means that the system has not crashed at all recently?

--no recent crashes

That is remarkable, is it not, given the recent history of your use on this system?

Something seems to have significantly changed its behaviour.

Tell me: Are you still using the computer with Windows starting to a clean boot?

Do you need assistance with the BIOS update?
  • I doubt very much whether I personally can assist ... but if not, I can ask for someone with lots of experience to chime in and assist you. (... assuming I can find that as-yet-unknown person)
