The guy said I can take my time with this to troubleshoot so I will work on it again next week, meantime I would like to order a pci graphics card only for testing purposes, I have many here but none low profile to fit this machine. Would this be ok?

Which of these is yours? Do you have the small form factor?

Edit: The card will fit but it uses a DMS-59 connector which is not common. You would need an adapter for VGA output.

The middle one SFF, I think the one on the right is a USFF.

See my edited post. It will fit but the connector is not common.

That's just a regular DVI connector, my workbench monitor had dual outputs [DVI and VGA] so as long as I can use the pci card to test will be fine. That card should should work with this pc not so?

It's not DVI

It's a DMS-59.

DVI - There is a blade on the the DVI male connector.

Ohhh, thanks for pointing that out, for some reason low profile cards with vga is not so common to find especially for cheap just for this test.

They do make adapters for converting to DVI but from what I have read DMS-59 carries two signals so you can power two monitors.

You can get the cheap card from ebay but you will need the adapter. As I previously posted, put a hard drive in and install Linux Mint Cinnamon. See how it performs. That would at least give you an idea if it was hardware related.

Those would work also. They are used for pulling data off a Windows computer but I thought a full distro install may give you a better idea on how the computer behaves. Puppy is not really intended to be installed on a hard drive but it can be.

Oh I think I understand now, the linux I have is meant to work outside of the HDD but the one you mentioned works on the HDD so like a windows system.

Yes, you will install Mint to the hard drive. How much RAM is on the computer.
