Although it uses AVG in its name and bundles AVG Secure Search, the Nation Toolbar is not actually related to AVG.
How To Disable AVG Secure Search Provider In BrowsersHow To Disable AVG Search From New TabRun the AVG Browser Configuration ToolSome of this may be redundant but lets double-check each of these removal suggestions for anything related to AVG:
1. Go to Wrench > Settings > Under "
Search," click "
Manage search engines" and delete AVG Secure Search. Then change your default search engine back to "Google" or another search engine.
2. Go to Wrench > Tools > Extensions. Remove the "AVG Internet Security" extension
3. If you have a homepage button next to your address bar, go to Wrench > Settings. Under "
Appearance," click on "Change" (under the Show Home Buttom) and enter the homepage URL address you want.
Close and reopen Chrome. Go to google.com <-
IMPORTANT: Be sure you are
not on the AVG search page when you do this:
1. Go to Wrench > Settings to open the "
Settings" section in a new tab.
2. Under the main heading of Settings, there are sub-headings...look for the one called "
On Startup".
3. Below this there are three choices. The bottom one (Open a specific page) should be selected.
4. Next to this click the link for "
Set pages" to open "
Startup pages".
5. You should see the AVG startup page. Highlight it with your mouse and click the
X to the right to delete it.
6. After deleting the AVG startup page,
set a new start page.
7. Click OK to return to the Settings section and make sure the new start page is still showing.
8. Close and reopen Chrome for all the new settings to take affect.
If doing all the above still fails to remove AVG Secure Search you can try the following suggestion I found at the Google Chrome forums:
1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default2. Delete the entire "
Default" folder. Doing this will delete all your bookmarks (so you may want to back them up first) AND remove all your extensions so they will need to be re-installed afterwards.
Note: The
AppData folder is hidden by default so you will have to
reconfigure Windows to show hidden files, folders.
