DD
Have you not heard of a 'tongue in cheek' comment?

Yes, I honestly used it, and got into all sorts of Problems, Mate.
BC and another Forum made me see that that is not the way.

You said it!

Excuse me?

Did Bill Gates ever say this? and the rest of it?

I have to say that in 1981, making those decisions, I felt like I was providing enough freedom for 10 years. That is, a move from 64k to 640k felt like something that would last a great deal of time. Well, it didn't - it took about only 6 years before people started to see that as a real problem

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Bill_Gates

I honestly think that is why people are really laughing about my Comment.

If you really think M$oft have told no Furphies, (Lies) so be it and may God, or Bill Gates (just maybe his Version of a GOD?) help you, Mate.

Nobody else will.

Never meant Offensively to anyone, I do have a Right to state what I honestly think.

Ray.

XP SP2 has proven to be stable. And, with the right anti-virus and anti-spyware/malware protection, provides solid performance. A lot of my clients systems are old and for one reason or another Microsoft will not Validate them or even allow SP3 to installed. So, they will use XP SP2 until they crash completely and then purchase the newest 'cheap' Dell or Acer they can find at Best Buy or WalMart. Then, they call me asking why their new Windows 7 Starter computer is slower than their old XP computer.

Personally, I think this is a mistake. Microsoft has shown with the Shortcut vulnerability patch that they will no longer provide security updates for SP2. To me, anyone using SP2 is just opening up a can of worms when it comes to security.

Ever think that it wont validate due to hardware issues such as BIOS updates and Driver conflicts?

You do know that Microsoft always recommends to make sure everything is updated on your computer before applying any service packs and the updates include but are not limited to the following:

BIOS Updates (Had an issue going from Non SP XP Pro to SP1 where I would BSOD until I flashed my BIOS)
Driver Updates such as Video, Audio, Chipset, Network, and others
Software Patches such as Office Updates, Virus Scanner Updates, DirectX Updates, Internet Explorer Updates, CD Burning Software, and what not.

Virus or other Malware Infections can prevent any service pack updates to fail.

Using a non-genuine Windows Product Key can also lead to service pack installs and other updates.

If your clients machines are old and slow, then maybe its time to perform some upgrades such as RAM and Hard Drive upgrades.

Been There. Done That. Even have t-shirts from Microsoft. ;^) Most of the issues were with the cheaper Dells and HPs. Dell and HP fail to provide needed updates for some of the third party hardware and software they pre-install on these systems. I've only had one not validate because it was a stolen Windows Product Key, something bought off of ebay. And, some just do not meet the minimum requirements.

However, XP SP2 has a proven track record for stability and reliabilty. I even have a few clients still using Win 98SE and Win 2000 SP4 without any problems, except for the new Internet Flash and Shockwave media. But, they don't care as long as they can read and send emails. When they can no longer access their email, they will replace their computers. One of them is a Dentist, of all people. And, he is paying for a website to be updated to the latest Flash format, which he can only see on two of his office computers.

Dell and HP have sense released information on how to install Windows XP SP3 on their machines, and as far as third party hardware and drivers go, have you heard of Google? There has not been a driver that I was unable to find for my computer or any computer that I have worked on.

At work we use Windows XP SP2, and I can tell you that the systems are so unreliable and god awful slow compared to any machine that I have used with Service Pack 3 installed on it. Give me the hardware details via following this: Publish a Snapshot using Speccy on all your computers that you work on, and I can find drivers elsewhere on the web. You do not always have to stick with http://www.dell.com, http://www.hp.com, or their respective sites to get the latest drivers for your machines. It is often the case that OEM manufactures do not go above and beyound to make sure their drivers and patches are the very latest for systems. That would be just to much work for a company to do.
