Issue: BIOS and pre-OS screen does not display on monitor.

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Processor (6C/12T, 35MB Cache, up to 4.6 GHz Max Boost)

MSI MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI Motherboard mATX, AM4, DDR4

GeForce GTX 1650 Super Windforce OC 4GB

Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz C18

SeaSonic G-Series SSR-360GP 360 W ATX12V v2.31 80 PLUS GOLD

Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX Case

All hardware is supposedly working as I can boot Ubuntu and everything displays as normal Ubuntu wise. I have an SSD with an existing Windows 10 installation but when plugged in the BOOT lamp on MB lights up. No display. Also, when trying a Windows USB installer/boot device no display.

The main things that I’ve tried:

Flash BIOS to latest version.

Different monitor/HDMI cable – not tried DVI as I don’t have a cable nor monitor that supports it. No integrated graphics.

Clear CMOS by taking out the battery

I’ve also been in contact with Nvidia which doesn’t see any issue from their end. They’ve asked me to contact the MB manufacturer which I will try next week (unless someone here has a solution 😊).

Anyone here that have experienced something similar and been able to solve it? All input greatly appreciated. Thanks

Couple of things of note but first things first, can you explain what you mean by the below;

I have an SSD with an existing Windows 10 installation

If you mean that the drive had Windows installed on it when in another computer small wonder that this build will not work, please clarify this.

Yes, correct, it's a drive that was in another computer with Windows 10 installed from there. I understand that might be an issue in the new build also why the boot lamp is lightning up. I also have the Ubuntu drive which mentioned that let's me boot (no boot lamp). Still, if I use the bootable USB Windows 10 installation drive while the Ubuntu drive is connected I am not able to change boot order (no bios or pre-os screen displaying on monitor) and it goes straight to Ubuntu. Hopes this clarifies. Thanks

You can`t take the boot drive from one computer and expect it to work in another and for one very good reason, Windows will try and load the drivers for the original MB and other hardware and as you are finding it doesn`t work out too well, a new build = a clean install of Windows followed by the chipset drivers for the MB, the storage/SATA drivers and then the GPU drivers.

With the computer shut down remove the Ubuntu device.

Restart the computer while continually tapping the key that gains you access to the BIOS.

If able to access the BIOS, leave it there and post back to let us know.

NB: A more complicated and problematic approach would be to put the boot drive into a working computer, remove the old drivers etc and just leave Windows on the drive, fine up until Windows tries to update and the Microsoft servers detect a new MB and lock you out of updates and put an unlicensed version of Windows message on the screen.
