Anyone know of a site where i can get help with Java?  Not programming, about which I know nothing, but just getting it working as an end user (decipher error message).

If you are just wanting Java to run java based applications then you need the Java Runtime environment, JRE, not the developer's one. There seem to plenty of forums for developers but none for users !

Lol, exactly what I found.  In fact my question at stackoverflow was blocked from answers because it was "inappropriate".

In this case I have two systems, a Vista desktop and a Win7 laptop, the Java program in question ran fine on both about four years ago.  Both have the same java program, the same C++ modules, the same IE, the same Java8 install, both hardwired to the same router.  Program still runs fine on Win7 system but aborts on Vista system with message about a resource not found.

The JRE updates fairly regularly, it may be that the updated, current, version is not compatible with Vista.

According to the Java site, Java8 is compatible with Vista, Win7, 8, and 10;  Java9 is only compatible with Win10.  So that shouldn't be an issue (doesn't necessarily mean it isn't, lol).
