I use the online Outlook Live for my Hotmail account in my web browser, and a couple of days ago, the Folders pane on the left side of the window started listing Files (it says Word templates, Excel templates, and Manage files).

I have no idea why this “feature” was added. I don’t work with files in Outlook and have no interest in doing so. I can find no option in Settings that will allow me to remove these items from the pane that appears when I open Outlook. I can hide it by clicking the down arrowhead next to Files, but the next time I open Outlook Live, it appears again. I use Outlook as an e-mail tool only. I wouldn’t mind if this extraneous feature appeared underneath the list of my e-mail folders, where it would be out of my way, but I don’t see an option for that either. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it?

Are you using any Microsoft office programs?

Here is what my Outlook looks like today. The second image is my NoScript settings for Outlook in Firefox.

Note that I only allow 4 scripts to run (Trusted). I could disallow the Skype scripts but choose not to.

This the online version of Outlook / hotmail and I'm not using Windows...using Linux Ubuntu.

I am a contractor with Microsoft - long-time Hotmail user (22 years), long-time SkyDrive/OneDrive user, and long-time Office 365 user, and I do not have the Files features that you are showing. Can you tell us exactly what version of Office you have, exactly what version of OneDrive you have, exactly what version of Windows you have? And, are you a member of a Windows Insider Build? Microsoft often rolls out new products in waves to customers, but I have not received this new feature yet that you show.
