Microsoft says that a feature update will be automatically initiated for devices running Windows 10 version 1803 and earlier using a machine learning (ML) based rollout process.
Since Windows 10 version 1803 devices will no longer receive security updates starting November 12, 2019, Windows Update will automatically direct users to update to the newest feature update "to ensure device security and ecosystem health."
Computers running April 2018 Update and earlier versions of Windows 10 will be upgraded to Windows version 1903 via a machine learning based rollout process according to a tweet shared by Microsoft's Windows Update account.
"We are now beginning to build and train the machine learning (ML) based rollout process to update devices running the April 2018 Update, and earlier versions of Windows 10, to ensure we can continue to service these devices and provide the latest updates, security updates and improvements," says Microsoft.

John Cable, Windows Servicing and Delivery Director of Program Management, announced last month that "Windows 10 devices that are at, or within several months of reaching, end of service, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update."
As Cable further explained, by updating these devices to the latest feature release, Microsoft wants to make sure that it can provide them with continued support.
"We are starting this machine learning (ML)-based rollout process several months in advance of the end of service date to provide adequate time for a smooth update process," also stated Cable.

Two weeks ago, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 version 1903 (also known as Windows 10 May 2019 Update) is available to all customers who manually check for updates using the Windows update dialog.
With a small caveat: users of devices with compatibility issues are still blocked from updating to Windows 10 version 1903, with blocks being set in place by Microsoft to prevent incompatible computers from installing the update.
At the moment, there still are seven Windows 10 version 1903 compatibility update blocks:
• Loss of functionality in Dynabook Smartphone Link app
• Display brightness may not respond to adjustments
• Audio not working with Dolby Atmos headphones and home theater
• Intel Audio displays an intcdaud.sys notification
• Error attempting to update with external USB device or memory card attached
• Cannot launch Camera app
• Intermittent loss of Wi-Fi connectivity
A number of issues that were behind several other, now removed, update blocks were fixed by Microsoft:
• Older versions of BattlEye anti-cheat software incompatible
• Duplicate folders and documents showing in user profile directory
• AMD RAID driver incompatibility
• D3D applications and games may fail to enter full-screen mode on rotated displays
Customers who experience Windows 10 updating issues can use a Microsoft support document designed to help users troubleshoot problems while updating Windows 10.
In addition, Microsoft provides customers with a guided walk-through for fixing errors experienced by users while updating their Windows 10 installation
