Microsoft Adds IoT Device Protection to Azure Security Center

Microsoft announced the general availability of Azure Security Center for IoT which provides organizations with security posture management and threat protection for all deployed IoT devices.

"Azure Security Center allows you to protect your end-to-end IoT deployment by identifying and responding to emerging threats, as well as finding issues in your configurations before attackers can use them to compromise your deployment," said Michal Braverman-Blunmenstyk, Microsoft's  CTO for Cloud and AI Security.

The Microsoft Azure Security Center has been generally available in mid-2016 and, since then, it is used by organizations from all over the world to identify and respond to security threats targeting their Azure cloud applications and Virtual Machines (VMs).

Azure Security Center for IoT will make it possible for Microsoft cloud customers to prevent, detect, and help remediate potential attacks targeting the entire range of components making up corporate IoT deployments, "from small sensors, to edge computing devices and gateways, to Azure IoT Hub, and on to the compute, storage, databases, and AI/ML workloads that organizations connect to their IoT deployments."

With the new IoT support being generally available for all Azure Security Center customers, businesses with not enough SecOps professionals or the necessary skill sets, will be able to "automatically discover and onboard new devices and apply security policies across your workloads (Leaf devices, Edge devices, IOT Hub) to ensure compliance with security standards."

The Azure Security Center for IoT solution makes it possible to keep a close eye on IoT devices, machines, networks, and Azure services security around the clock with the help of a wide range of security assessments.

It also helps detect and eradicate threats via easy-to-follow steps ordered by importance, as well as with the help of configuration suggestions designed to assist enrolled organizations to enhance their overall IoT security posture.

"With newly added IoT capabilities, you can now reduce attack surface for your Azure IoT solution and remediate issues before they can be exploited. Monitor your IoT solution for incoming attacks and post-breach activity," says Microsoft.

"When combined with Microsoft’s secure-by-design devices, services, and the expertise we share with you and your partners, Azure Security Center for IoT provides an important way to reduce the risk of IoT while achieving your business goals," added Braverman-Blunmenstyk.

Security Messages tracked with Azure Security Center for IoT will be counted against customers' IoT Hub quota and General Availability billing will start on October 1 for all clients.

Pricing information for Azure Security Center for IoT can be found on the Security Center pricing page, with per month or per transaction billing pricing info being available for review.
