Have you been able to connect before?
Do you get any error messages, or does it just "hang" and you have to get out of the screen, and precisely where in the process does this happen?
The more concrete information you can provide, the fewer false trails will be mentioned.
Regards,
John

Have you been able to connect before?

yes, i've been playing for the last year

Do you get any error messages

no messages.... i type in my username and password, the "connecting...." box pops up, and it doesn't go past there. it should say Connecting, authenticating, authentication successful, success!, loading characters

The more concrete information you can provide, the fewer false trails will be mentioned.

sorry, i was frustrated and very ambiguous in hindsight.

the WoW troubleshooter suggests: power cycling my modem, doing a tracert, opening TCP port 3724, updating windows, which i've all done with no effect. it also suggests to make sure all the servers are up, which they are, and to make sure i can connect to the internet, which i obviously can.

i've also uninstalled, deleted all traces of, and reinstalled the game, renewed my IP address, and cleared my dns cache... still nothing. and the tech support on the wow forums are still effectively ignoring me. i sent an email to the tech support emails are said to have a 100% response rate) but still have no response  also, i have no router and am using a wired connection, with only one computer.

hope that clears things up :flowers:
not sure if this is necessary, but here is my tracert:

attens.net, is in fact a WoW IP, and according to techs, request timouts from it are not indicative of a broken connection.
