I am a service tech and I'm getting confused with the term 'Exchange Server'. Is there a tutorial on the subject?

"Exchange Server" is the actual service that runs on the server. all sending/receiving of email must go through this program. It runs on the local/remote server, depending on the setup of the network, a little bit like a client/server database program. SQL Server on the server, client application on the local machine. Here is Microsoft's overview.
Here is a link to the Wikipedia article.
