Hey guys *and ladies*,

I got a problem on my newest build....

WIndows XP
Asus P5B (775) mobo
Liteon DVD/CD drive #1 Retail
Necron DVD/CD drive #2 OEM <--- I know the dilema with them and DVD's but should play my games ok...and be able to load some software...

I cannot get these 2 drives to work correctly until last night when #1 began to work after fidgiting with my wires and begining to cry >.<

I still cannot get my drive #2 to work correctly ...

I have HDD cord connected to both and then to the MOBO... Both have power to them and that works fine because they open close without a problem...

Drivers are all up to date and everything else on the comp seams to work fine...

If anybody has any idea for what i should I would greatly appreciate it

That motherboard only has one IDE connector, and the cable that comes with it only has three male connectors, one that goes to the motherboard, and two for drives. Yet you say you have both optical drives and the hdd on the same cable?

If you have the two optical drives on the IDE cable are the jumpers set for master and slave?

That is where the problem could be I have never had a double set of drives so i don't know how that works... the paperwork that came with the drives explained abolutely nothing....

If its not to much of a pain could you explain how to change it and which one should be which?

My mobo has 1 IED connection spot and come with :

(1) complete HDD cord (Flat cord with 2 drive connectors and 1 connection to the Mobo) <- Im pretty sure its HDD cord

My HDD (Hard Drive) is connected to the Raid 6 slot and has a power cord connected to it...

You have a small plastic jumper at the back of both drives. If you look closely you should see marks for master and slave. The master will be at the end of the flat IDE ribbon and the slave on the second connection. Be sure when roaming around in there that you don't pull the ribbon loose from the mobo connection

Might want to try a new ribbon cable Some players have a small plug in the back where a cable from the sound card goes

What garmanma is referring to is the two pin audio out connector on the rear of the optical drive which connects to the motherboard audio in, this connector is only accessible on the motherboard component side, not from the rear of the case.

Just to clear this up for me, what two devices exactly do you have on that IDE cable, and which is in the master position?

Liteon DVD/CD drive (Slave by default) Retail
Necron DVD/CD drive (Master by default) OEM

I'll need to go through my cords to figure out which one will fit that slot.. (This is the first build i have done with 2 CD/DVD drives and without a sound card..)
