Looking on the Fedora website, it appears some others just had that same problem. See if this fixes it:

yum remove x264 -y
yum --disablerepo=freshrpms install x264 -y

It simply removes the library, and then reinstalls it. I just had an update do really bad things to my CentOs box a couple of weeks ago. It borked all of my shared libraries to the point I could no longer use yum, tar, or any system tools. I did an in place repair/ reinstall.

Well, at least I didn't make it worse

Anywhoo, when you tried to rienstall the package with yum, you got an error message? Was it the same or different? And again, are you using any custom repos?

I use Livina, Fedora and FreshRPMS. No the package reinstalled fine but once I tried to reinstall I got the exact same message.

Scanning the Fedora Forums now

EDIT

OK the guys over at fedora Forums helped me figure it out. FreshRPMS and Livina repos DO NOT play well together. If you have made the mistake use the command

yum update --disablerepo=freshrpms

or

yum update --disablerepo=livina

I post so others may learn from my mistakes.
