I hope someone can give me some advice on this...

I upgraded my Sony Vaio PCG-F630 to Win XP from Win ME. Install went fine and PC works great, except the install only gave me the choice to install on the D partition. Win ME is still on the C partition. When I boot, I get the choice of either ME or XP. Of course the D drive with XP is NTFS and the C drive with ME is FAT32. Here's what I want to know:

Can I format the C drive with Win ME? I have no need for it. It's just wasting space. I would like to format it into NTFS.

If I do format the C drive, this will leave Win XP on the D drive. Will the operating system on the D drive be a problem or do I need to change the letter designation from D to C?

I appreciate your help.

There is a chance that, if you format the C: drive, the computer may not work. If so, a repair install of XP (or a couple of commands in the Recovery Console) should fix it. This depends on if your formatting wipes the boot sector and MBR (not usual, but it happens).

I'd suggest saving all your data and then installing XP on a freshly formatted drive (formatted to NTFS), but this may not be possible if you don't have the original ME CD.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
