I currently have 5 computers on my home network working great...mostly. However the one in the second story bedroom farthest away from the Dlink DI-824 VUP wireless router only gets a usable signal intermittently. I was going to try a repeater upstairs to extend my range, but I read about someone using an old wireless router as an AP in order to extend the range. I have an almost new DI-624 wireless router that I replaced with the 824 so I could have a built in print server. I know I can use it as an AP but I need the specific steps to do so or would I be better off getting a repeater. Also would a stronger antennae be a better choice on my 824 to extend the usable range? I basically just want to make that one computer work consistently no matter what I have to do. I am fairly new at this networking stuff and would appreciate any input or insight anyone might have. Thank you.

Try this website WiFi Ant. . I typed in WiFi antenna in Google . A desktop antenna on each should do it. Fairly cheap and effective .

as far as i know you can not just plug it in and it will work like that but what you could do is install a networking card in a computer that may be between the ap and the far away computer and run ics on it and share the connction f rom the wirless card to the wirednoe then conect the wired on the your old ap and thats it

Hope that made some sence
Good luck
