Yesterday we took in a Toshiba laptop that had been upgraded to Vista from XP. The customer had recurrent errors that the Toshiba Flash Utility wasn't working. We even tried a repair install to fix it - with no luck.

We navigated to the directory that held the Flash Utility (the file name was tcrdMain.exe) and instructed the file to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode and to Run as Administrator. The error disappeared! I'd presume that this should be done for all .exe files in the program's subdirectory in order to ensure continued compatibility.

In short, some errors can be fixed by locating the executable(s) for the files in question and instructing them to run in compatibility mode. (BTW - this fix also worked for earlier versions of AVG Free that weren't Vista compatible - I just had to set compatibility mode on ALL the .exe's in the AVG directory).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
