Today, both of my internet browsers keep freezing and crashing (Firefox 2.0.0.4 and Explorer v.6) After about 5 minutes or so, Firefox will freeze and I get the standard "Progran Not Responding" message. This happened several times to the point of frustration, so I resorted to IE. The same thing happened. I ran anti-virus (Norton Corporate) and my anti-spyware. They found nothing. I cleared my browser cache, cookies, temp. internet files, history, etc. I defragged my computer and uninstalled, then re-installed Firefox. I came to this site and installed SpyBlaster, all to no avail. I then went thru the whole "SEnd Error Report?" snafu, which tied up and eventually froze my computer. I must've unplugged it and re-started it 20 times today!

Firefox keeps crashing on me even after re-installation, so I'm using Explorer, which is running ok...for now.

What the heck is going on?!?

Hi shorty,

Occasionally, when the Windows Firewall service on your Windows XP (SP2)-based computer is disabled, the Computer Browser service stops after five minutes and an error is logged in the Event Viewer System Log.

Event ID: 7023 - Description: The Computer Browser service terminated with the following error: This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

See this M$ KB article for the resolution; When Windows Firewall is Disabled, the Browser Service Stops.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.
