Posted 06 July 2007 - 07:33 AM

Problems started a couple of weeks ago when i somehow picked up Outerinfo...a quick google led me to these forums and that was fairly simple to get rid of.

Since then i have been on holiday and my sister has used the computer, seemed to have been riddled with spy and adware on my return.

Done everything in the preparation guide (except Panda, Bit Defender and Stinger which all crashed or stalled during or before scan) and it's made a big difference already, still think there might be a few things i should get rid of so best posting this incase?

There does seem to be a lot of things running in the background, a lot of which i'm not really sure of and have no idea wether i should be disabling them or if their needed.

the ATI and Gigabyte utilities specifically...i never use them but they've been on the computer since i had it upgraded a couple of years ago..

Another thing since i've had problems is when opening a folder on the computer (My Documents, My Music or My Pictures for example) there's no toolbar at the top anymore, still one on the left but there used to be on top aswell, have tried right-clicking everywhere on the screen to see if it's something i can manually enable but no joy?

Any help appreciated with this log please!

Cheers

This seems to be getting a fairly common problem,i'm still looking into it.
Try the following:
Launch Firefox.
Click on Tools/Options/Content tab.
Make sure both the boxes 'Enable Javascript' and 'Enable Java' are checked.

If you have the MS Windows XP install disk.
Click Start>Run,type sfc /scannow then press Ok.
Leave a space in between sfc and /scannow
Reboot when you've done.
Let me know if that made any difference or not please.

Thanks - the Windows disc scan didn't change anything but creating a new firefox profile has sorted it.

Is that all the spyware etc removed then from looking at the logs now?

Only things i'm worried about now is the below?

There does seem to be a lot of things running in the background, a lot of which i'm not really sure of and have no idea wether i should be disabling them or if their needed.

the ATI and Gigabyte utilities specifically...i never use them but they've been on the computer since i had it upgraded a couple of years ago..

Another thing since i've had problems is when opening a folder on the computer (My Documents, My Music or My Pictures for example) there's no toolbar at the top anymore, still one on the left but there used to be on top aswell, have tried right-clicking everywhere on the screen to see if it's something i can manually enable but no joy?

Cheers again!

Your log is clean
If all's ok,please do the following:

Find and delete:
VundoFix.exe
Combofix.exe
KillBox

C:\VundoFix Backups
C:\QOOBOX
C:\!Killbox

Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
In the 'System Restore' window, click on the 'Create a Restore Point' button, then click 'Next'.
In the window that appears, enter a description\name for the Restore Point, then click on 'Create',wait, then click 'Close'.
The date and time will be created automatically.

Next click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
The 'Select Drive' box will appear, click on Ok.
The 'Disk Cleanup for [C:]' box will appear, click on the 'More Options' tab.
At the bottom in the 'System Restore' window, click on the 'Clean up...' button.
A box will pop up 'Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?',click on 'Yes'.
Click on 'Yes' at 'Are you sure you want to perform these actions?'.
Now wait until 'Disk Cleanup' finishes and the box disappears.
