Outlook 2000 Going Offline

Outlook 2000 running on a non-Exchange mail server. It sometime get "You must be online to perform this function" and some similar messages, and after sometime it gets resolved by itself. Is there anything on Outlook 2000 that ought to be checked?

why won't my laptop work?

I use Open Office. I'll have to go play on my wife's machine and see what I can find. I'll post back later
