Hey, I found this website by searching google for a bug my antivirus detected but couldn't remove, which was iesmn.exe. Next i tried a few of the bugfixes that posters gave like Vundofix, and SmitfraudFix, but neither of them worked. As I type this, there is a bubble emanating from a yellow triangle with a ! in it, in my taskbar, that says:

"Securtiy Alert: Spyware found Your computer is infected with last version of PSW.x-Vir Trojan. PSW trjans steal your private information such as:passwords, IP-address, credit card information, registration details, documents, etc. Click this baloon to remove PSW.x-Vir spyware"

and upon clicking said bubble, Internet Explorer pops up, showing a website called Antivermins, trying to sell me antivirus software, which i don't need, since I have software already called Shaw Secure, provided by my ISP.

Also, when I shut down my computer, a couple errors pop up saying that certain programs failed to initialize because the computer is shutting down, these programs were: iesmn.exe, imsmain.exe, iesplg.exe, iesmin.exe, and imsmn.exe

Anyway, here is my HijackThis Log... and i hope it will help someone help me!

Hello tazz88,

Next i tried a few of the bugfixes that posters gave like Vundofix, and SmitfraudFix, but neither of them worked

It is not a good idea to copy another person log. Now I dont know what you removed or why.

Lets see if there any of the infection on your computer.

Please download SmitfraudFix

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Looks like you are still infected.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

First of all, My computer seems to not have a safe mode. I restarted the computer, pressed F8, and all that happened was a blue box asking to select first boot device: Floppy, Hard drive, or CD drive. Any of them I select, it boots in normal mode. So, I ran the SmitfraudFix in normal mode, and I'm pretty sure the cleaning process failed. Here's what happened: (I wrote it down on a piece of paper)

SmitFraudFix v2.99

Killing process... (at this point my icons and taskbar dissappeared from my desktop)
hosts...
Generic Renos Fix...
Deleting Infected Files...
C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\iesmn.exe - Access is Denied
C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\imsmain.exe -Access is Denied
C:\Program Files\Video AxtiveX Access\iesplg.dll - The process cannot access the file because i is being used by another process.
C:\Program Files\Video AxtiveX Access\iesmin.exe - Access is Denied
C:\Program Files\Video AxtiveX Access\imsmn.exe - Access is Denied
Scanning DNS...
Deleting temp files...

and that is as far as it went, and after a few minutes the command prompt box closed itself, leaving me with just my desktop background, and i had to restart my computer to be able to post this. Do you know what went wrong and do you still want a new HijackThis log?

Edit: by the way, that little yellow triangle is still appearing.

SmitfraudFix will only remove the infection in the Safe Mode, so running it in the normal mode is a waste of your time.

First of all, My computer seems to not have a safe mode.

If it is XP, then it has a Safe Mode. It may be that F8 method to reach the Safe Mode does not work with your computer. There is other way to get into safe mode.
Go here and try the alternate way:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/

and then run SmitfruadFix with option #2

Do you know what went wrong

You did not run it in the safe mode

and do you still want a new HijackThis log?

I only need the Hijackthis log after you run SmitfruadFix in the Safe Mode.

Hi Tazz88,

I'm Happy to say, that the blinking yellow triangle seems to be gone

That is great. But we still have some items to fix.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

Go to START > Settings > Control Panel
Double click Add/Remove Programs, Select
WildTangent
PartyPoker
Click uninstall or add/remove, follow the on screen instructions.

*******************************************

Select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix."

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {184746EC-9E9D-4C7D-B9E7-9039EBD801A9} - C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\iesplg.dll (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {FA13A9FA-CA9B-11D2-9780-00104B242EA3} - http://www.wildtangent.com/install/wdriver...soft/wtinst.cab

*******************************************

Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders',
deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)', and
deselect (uncheck) "Hide extensions for known file types.'

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following folders in bold (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINDOWS\wt\ <==folder

*******************************************

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

CAUTION: Please do NOT use the Issues button. This is a built-in registry cleaner. If you don't know how to use it, you may cause irreparable damage to your system.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section.
• Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
• Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Reboot your computer.

You have a suspicious file we need to check.

You will need to configure Windows to show Hidden files.

Go to next site: http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
On top you'll find 'Browse'
Click the browse button and browse to next file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\celipsrv.exe

Click open.
Then click the 'Send' button next to it.
This will scan the file. Please be patient.
Save the results in notepad.
Once scanned, copy and paste the result in your next reply.

I usually enter my email address at virus total so they can send me the scan results. They usually only take a couple minutes to reply.
You can copy/paste the results of scan results here.

*******************************************

Open HijackThis
Go to 'config'
Go to 'misc tools'
Press the button 'open uninstall manager'
Press 'save list'
A notepad file will open.
Post the content here in your reply.
Close HijackThis.

Ppost a new Hijackthis log, the results of the Virus Total scan, and the uninstall manager listing.

Hi Tazz88,

Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs.
From within add/remove program uninstall the following by double-clicking on the following entries:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

If you did not install PokerStars then uninstall
PokerStars

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language  jre-6-windows-i586.exe and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Do you know what this program is? celipsrv.exe Did you install it?

If yo do not know what it is and did not install it, then
select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix."

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [celipsrv.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\celipsrv.exe

Reboot your computer and post a fresh Hijackthis log.
