Why is it that my favicons seem to disappear and be replaced by default IE icon?

Microsoft has a KnowledgeBase article - h e r e - that discusses the problem with shortcut files.

The favicon problem is a known problem.

I'm searching for a fix or workaround for it.

Hi lecy,

Check out kellys-korner FavOrg - Restore and Save Favorite Icons (Line 108).
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

Hey lecy -

Please let us know if that kellys-korner fix resolves your issue.

When I go to kellys-korner in IE7, it shows their "favicon" in the tab, and also displays it when I add k-k to my favorites. I believe IE7 handles favicons better than IE6 did, but the webmaster of the site must put that "ico" file in the right place on the site.

I get the correct favicon here on BC, too.

Johnwho, Sorry for delay Re: favicons disappearance topic 1/7/07. FavOrg .zip(Kellys Korner line108) seems to have fixed the problem just fine. I've had no trouble since installing FavOrg with disappearing icons and my thanks to TMack.

As I asked in your other thread, what application are you using to create them?
