My son may have put a keylogger on our computer. I noticed today and yesterday the following in the browser history for "My Computer"-C:\Documents and Settings\Kim\Application Data\Gtek\GTUpdate\AUpdate\Channels\ch_u4\HTML\html\index.htm

Any ideas? Could this be a keylogger application?

Kim

Hi thirtiesbrat,

I suggest you to do a online scan.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Do you have Gtek or GTK listed in your Add/Remove program? Could just be an instant messenger service. Keyloggers are stealthy and would not show up in the Add/Remove program.

I am unable to get any of the suggested online scanners to work. Panda keeps giving me an error- possible causes not allowing activex. Trend Micro keeps giving me a blank page and the same with safety.live.com

I'm having the same issues with Firefox as well as IE

Gtek and GTK do not show up in add/remove

Help!

There are a few others online scanner you can try.

BitDefender Online Scan

Kaspersky WebScanner

In regards to activex problem, when you have open IE, go to tools > internet option > under security tab > set internet zone security level to medium-high if not medium temporary. If it goes well, remember to set back the setting that you are using currently.

If none of those sites will work, you've got some serious issues. The first thing to suspect is a malware infection - and I'd suggest reading the pinned topics in the following 2 forums to get started on removing it:

I figured out the mysterious update in "My Computer"- it's a dell support update. I'm still having problems using the online scanners though. I'm going to try to check that out today. Thanks for you suggestions and help!
