Hi everybody. I'm having some difficulty cleaning up a friend's computer. Part of the problem is that she doesn't keep her antivirus updated, doesn't update Windows, doesn't have a firewall, etc, etc... So I'm trying to help her out.

I installed, updated Adaware SE, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Blaster. I tried uninstalling some programs that were "questionable" at best, like MyWebSearch toolbar. But I'm still getting popups and redirects because I can't finish the job. So I came here looking for help. Thank you.

Brad

You've got a few different problems so this will probably take several steps to completely clean up.

Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip and run it.

Check the I know what I'm doing box.

In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of the following files.

dolsp.dll
aklsp.dll

Select every instance of these files, but no others, and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.

When you are done click Finish>>.

Delete these two files.

c:\windows\system32\dolsp.dll
c:\windows\system32\aklsp.dll

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Please post a new hijackthis log and the log generated from L2mfix.

OK. Ran lspfix ok, but tried removing 'dolsp.dll' and I received an error: "Cannot delete dolsp: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

I then dowloaded and ran l2mfix.bat and here are the results:

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Was the previous message meant as a new post of its own, rather than a reply? Thanks.

Yes, that post was removed from this thread. He should have started his own thread.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

Download the following file:

http://www.thatcomputerguy.us/downloads/finditnt2000xp.zip

and unzip the contents to a folder. When it has unzipped, open that folder and double click on Find.bat. It will run for a while, so be patient, and then produce a log (ignore any File not found messages on the screen, it should continue anyway).

Please copy and paste that log here.

Also please post a new hijackthis log.

I've run the FindNT2KX 'find.bat' program at least 3 times, and each time it shows a DOS screen that says 'File not found' and the screen closes - nothing else happens.

Here's the latest HJT log

It's not unusual to get that "File not found". Just ignore it and let it continue to run. It may take several minutes.

If you still can't get it to produce a log, try this instead.

Please download DLL Compare to your desktop from here:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/DllCompare.exe

Start Dll Compare, then click on "Run Locate.com". When it tells you that's finished, click on "Compare" at the bottom right. When that finishes, click "Make a Log of What was Found" and answer "Yes" to View Log file. Copy and paste the contents of that log here.

Here's the "Locate.com" log results:

* DLLCompare Log version()
Files Found that Windows does not See or cannot Access
*Not everything listed here means you are infected!

That's a good sign! Are you having any more problems?

Please post one last hijackthis log.

The problems aren't so bad now, but I keep getting re-directed to other websites - even after this one. Something like please visit our sponsors. Should I run Ad-aware and/or Spybot again, as well as HJT? I think theres still something there. My browser is Mozilla Firefox, not IE. That's why I think there's still something wrong. Thanks for your help.

Have Hijackthis fix this line.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [fBt9Rki5e] hpostrm.exe

Then delete these two files.

hpostrm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yuokgk.exe

Please run these two online scans.
Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm

If there are files that can not be removed by the scans please include that information in your next post.

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log and let me know how things are running. Any improvement?

Ok. I ran both online scans, and Trend Micro House Call gave the following message at the end

"Unable to clean "C:\Windows\System32\guzpqp.dll" becuase it is currently in use."

Panda Online scan found 1 infected and it disinfected it. I missed the name of the file or the virus/bug.

After rebooting I ran HJT and here is the log from that scan
