Switching from Linspire to Windows XP

I am a longtime MS Windows user, however I decided to buy a new PC with Linspire as the OS. Linspire sucks and I am having one heck of a time reformatting the hard drive and installing Windows XP. Any suggestions.

What kind of problems are you having? A little more detail might allow folks here to give you better answers.
