win xp media center edition

I get a black screen and message disk boot failure
After multiple attempts XP boots
at times..not always can hear a light ticking sound

That's gotta be a harddrive issue. . .I wouldn't try to boot anymore, but try to get a linux live cd in or something to rescue things off that drive.
