I've read and tried a variety of fixes for about:blank but nothing has helped so far. Opening page about:blank loads when I close down internet explorer and also multiple versions of internet explorer keep appearing in task manager.
I'm running:
McAfee Personal Firewall
Norton Systemworks
Microsoft Antispyware
Spysweeper
Spyware Blaster
Browser Hijack Blaster

Hi

You are running HijackThis from a temp folder. You will need to move hijackthis.exe to a permanent folder, such as c:\hjt . This has to be done as HijackThis creates backups when you fix items. These backups could easily get deleted in a temporary folder.

First create a new folder:
A. Click My Computer icon on your desktop
B. Click C: drive
C. Click the File menu --> New --> Folder, a folder "New folder" will be created.
D. Rename it HJT

Unzip hijackthis.exe to the c:\HJT folder.

You are running emule - as with all P2P sharing programs they are susceptible to various forms of malware.

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Please print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

REBOOT into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [startkey] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\svchost.exe

These are restrictions. Leave them unchecked if these were set by you using a software like Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster or another similar protection software, or if these were set by your system administrator.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

With all windows and browsers closed.
Clean out temporary and Temporary Internet Files.
A. Open System Security Suite.
B. In the Items to Clear tab thick:
- Internet Explorer (left pane): Cookies & Temporary files
- My Computer (right pane): Temporary files & Recycle Bin
Press the Clear Selected Items button.
Close the program.

REBOOT normally.

Run HijackThis! again and post a new log please.

Please submit this file here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\svchost.exe <-- this file

Go to Start --> Run, and type cmd in the Open box, then click OK to open a command prompt.
Type sfc /scannow, note the space after sfc.

Insert you original Windows CD in the CD-ROM drive. This will restore your protected system files on your computer.

Perform a full scan here: Trendmicro, check AutoClean and let him remove anything he finds.

Perform a full scan here: Panda Online, follow the instructions on the screed, make sure these are checked:
- Disinfect automatically
- Scan compressed files
- Scan e-mail files
- Neutralize Trojans
and let him remove anything he finds.

REBOOT and post a new log please.

I don't see something suspect in your log.

Download Find It NT-2K-XP.zip.

Unzip the contents of Find It NT-2K-XP.zip to a folder, for example c:\findit

Navigate to the c:\findit folder and double-click on find.bat.
A command prompt will open and it will search your computer for malicious files. Let it finish. It could take 5 - 10 minutes.

Once it has finished a Notepad window will pop up with output.txt.
Copy the entire contents of output.txt into your next post.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

Download Kaspersky - AdWare.Visiter & Virus.Win32.Implinker.a Removal Tool

Extract the files to a folder, such as c:\kav . Navigate to c:\kav

Run KLWK.COM

Please report back if it found the infection.

Hi,
The output.txt from Find-it is posted below, also KLWK.com didn't find anything.

Also: I looked at another solution at:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/tshoot.htm

and so far things seem to be be fixed but if you see anything in the output.txt file I would appreciate it.

TY,
Ed

Warning! This utility will find legitimate files in addition to malware.
Do not remove anything unless you are sure you know what you're doing.

Find.bat is running from: C:\Find-it\Find It NT-2K-XP

Also: I looked at another solution at:

I don't think this is a solution for your problem . It is a general advice how to remove malware.

but am still getting multiple versions of iexplorer.exe running under task manager

Only this is your "problem" ? This isn't necessarily a sign of malware. There is only one iexplorer.exe visible in your log. If you open another Internet Explorer window, there will be two, etc.

Your last log looks clean.
