Hi,

It is important you follow my next instructions in the right order without missing any step..

I see you have Viewpoint installed...
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
reboot your computer.

After reboot, * Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

* Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Windows Safe Mode, restart your computer and, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times.
Choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear and press Enter. If it won't enter in safe mode, don't try to force it. Then proceed with the steps in normal mode.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html

O20 - Winlogon Notify: xxywvvs - xxywvvs.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum). I need that log later.
So now since you're back in Windows normal mode, * Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog and the log from SDFix, present in the SDFix folder with the name report.txt
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
You may also need to use more than one reply to post the logs...

Thank you for your help in advance, btw.

I did what you stated (having some problems getting to Safe Mode but it worked eventually) and here's the logs you asked for.

Hello,

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Please hide your hidden files and folders afterwards again, when we are done with this thread and your problems are solved, because above instructions to set your system to show all files, unhide legit files and folders as well.
And I don't want you to delete them because they may look suspicious. To hide them again, just perform the above instructions in the opposite way.

First, we'll have to do some manual deletion, since we cannot add it in a script.
But please read first, because I don't want you to delete legit folders, since the folders you have to delete will look like legit ones..

Navigate to next folder:

C:\Program Files

In there, you'll find a folder: ?icrosoft.NET
This folder *may look like Microsoft.NET
If you rightclick the folder > properties, it should have next date/time : 2007-06-22 21:05:03
That's the bad one to delete. So if the properties are right, delete that ?icrosoft.NET-folder.
Do NOT! delete the Microsoft.NET folder present in your C:\Windows - folder!!! Because that's the good one!

Then, navigate to next folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files

In there, you'll find a folder: ??stem32
This folder *may look like system32
If you rightclick the folder > properties, it should have next date/time : 2007-06-22 20:57:31
That's the bad one to delete. So if the properties are right, delete that ??stem32-folder.
Do NOT! delete the System32- folder present in your C:\Windows - folder!!! Because that's the good one!

Then, Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\Documents and Settings\Faith\Local Settings\Temp\uftvggmh.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Faith\Local Settings\Temp\urnhbwqm.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Faith\Local Settings\Temp\gvpwpnlk.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Faith\Local Settings\Temp\uxfgrebp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ststv.ini2

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]
"Ctoo"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]
"{F41BF883-0A65-1041-1210-050419020001}"=-
"{F41BF883-0A66-1041-1210-050419020001}"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\authorizedapplications\list]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\mswinup.exe"=-
"C:\\WINDOWS\\TEMP\\winC5.tmp.exe"=-

Save this as ComboFix-Do.txt

Then drag the ComboFix-Do.txt into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.
