Im not sure what exactly is infecting my computer, but I get a security center balloon on my task bar, that opens up a security center with various things to allegedly fix my problem. Ultimate fixer is one of the items listed. I also get a few pop up adds, one is for uplift search. My highjack this log is as follows. any suggestions or help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

Hi,

Next time, please also include the header of the logs..

Do next please..

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::

C:\knoh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LiveProtectSetup.exe
C:\bsgvjmep.exe
C:\wyjgsa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winhdn32.dll

Folder::
C:\WINDOWS\kozw
C:\Program Files\Common Files\kozw
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qkchukoe

Driver::
DomainService

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{919A8A7D-CE09-4DF9-875D-FCCD2D222CA2}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"ctqbgngx.exe"=-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"kozw"=-

Save this as ComboFix-Do.txt

Then drag the ComboFix-Do.txt into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Also, do you know what this script is? C:\MapIDrive.bat
Did you create it?

Extra addition.... It appears that your Norton isn't properly installed.
So not sure if you tried to remove it previously or not - let me know as well.

By the way, did you purchase eTrust Antivirus?

Sorry about not including the header in the last post. Nortons was taken off the machine as I havent seen it on here. The etrust was already installed as I got this machine from a different co-worker but its my understanding that it was paid for. The Imap, I do not believe I installed, but I do have a few network drives that I go into so it may have something to do with those.

Hi,

I guess te MapiDrive.bat is OK... but to be on the safe side, I want to have a closer look at it.
So, Go to this page.
Enter the url of this thread in the first field.
Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to it and browse to next file:

C:\MapIDrive.bat

Select it and click ok
Then click the Send File button below.

Also, since you are already having Etrust Antivirus, I recommend you uninstall Norton, because it's only partially running and more than one Antivirus is not recommended anyway.

Check and fix next leftover in HijackThis:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

Delete the C:\Qoobox folder

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
Let me know in your next reply how things are now...

Things appear to be running much better, and I have not gotten one of those pesty pop ups, so I will say mission accomplished. Thank you very much for your time.
