I have been given a 250GB HDD which was set to show only 137GB. How can I reset it to read the full 250GB.

I suspect that the reason that it was given to you is because who ever gave it to you could only get it to be recognized as being 137GB. Most BIOS will only recognize a hdd size of 137GB, to get around this a 48 bit LBA is used in SP2 with XP, and SP4 with W2k. One work around would be to use partitions no larger than the 137GB limit. As a rule I will make a 20 or 30 GB partition for the OS and keep all of my other files on the second partition, this way if you ever want or need to reinstall the OS you can just reformat that partition and won't effect the other files on the second partition.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
