Hey kmatey

ComboFix

Please download ComboFix.exe (by sUBs)

Double click ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note : Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window whilst it's running! That may cause it to stall.

Hey kmatey

Upload Files

You have a file(s) of interest to us. It would help the detection rates of the tools we use by getting hold of samples of these infections.

1. Please download Suspicious File Packer.
2. Then restart your computer in safe mode.
3. Double-click Suspicious File Packer. Then copy and paste this list of files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\araifqkq.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\fafkbqpc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gdbsbyxd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\S?mantec\n?tepad.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vapshpew.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqnlkk.dll

4. Then click Continue. Close the program down.
5. Restart your computer in normal mode.
5. In the same folder as Suspicious File Packer should be a file named something similar to this: requested-files[2007-06-20_15_36].cab.
6. Open up BC MRC.
7. Then fill in the details:

Link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/96661/slammed-by-pop-ups/
File: Upload the file you just created

8. Then click Send File.

==========

Update Java

Your version of Java is now outdated. Java vulnerabilites are commonly exploited by malware so I strongly recommend you update it.

Please download Java Runtime Environment .

Install the update and restart your computer. Then remove any older versions from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

==========

Uninstall List

1. Open Hijackthis and select: Open the Misc Tools section.
2. Then choose: Open Uninstall Manager and click Save List.
3. Save the list to your computer.
4. Then copy the contents of the list back to your thread.

==========

Fix these Hijackthis Items

1. Open HijackThis and select the Do a system scan only option.
2. Place a check next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a...n&pf=laptop
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C55E473E-F08C-DA2E-DF06-F9ADA8E623B4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gdbsbyxd.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fafkbqpc.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\fafkbqpc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rsjwayd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\S?mantec\n?tepad.exe
O15 - Trusted IP range: http://172.24.5.72
O23 - Service: DomainService - - C:\WINDOWS\system32\araifqkq.exe

3. Close all open browsers and windows, except HijackThis. Then select fix checked . Then close HijackThis.

==========

Delete Files

Please download KillBox.exe (by Option^Explicit)

Note : In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it. Select Delete on Reboot, then select All Files. Then copy and paste this list of files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\araifqkq.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\fafkbqpc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gdbsbyxd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\S?mantec\n?tepad.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vapshpew.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqnlkk.dll

Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!)

==========

Please could then post a fresh Hijackthis log.

Hi Jamielaw--

OK- here is what I did and what happened.

Upload Files- I did this and uploaded the files via the Bleeping Computer interface

Installing and running this code is not allowed." :thumbsup:

Hi jamielaw-

I cleaned out the temp files as instucted.

I went to the Kaspersky as instucted and d/l'ed all the virus definitions. Everthing was fine- I started the scan- and when it hit 80% complete my PC shut down. I re-booted and tried again- same result- PC shuts completely down 80% into the scan. Overall I tried 3 times- it shut down each time. :thumbsup:

What should I do next?

Hey kmatey

Thats odd - can you remember the file it shuts down or the filepath e.g. C:\Program Files ?

Try another scan instead:

Panda ActiveScan
Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Hey kmatey

Using Hijackthis put a check next to this entry:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rsjwayd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\S?mantec\n?tepad.exe

Using Windows Explorer please navigate to these files and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\S?mantec\n?tepad.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqnlkk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gdbsbyxd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\smanager.7.exe~

Please could you then post a fresh Hijackthis log

Jamie :thumbsup:
