Other than intro post this is my first question here. If I dont give u enough info, please let me know.

I'm getting "cannot find server" more and more on sites that I know work fine on my office pc in addition to another home pc on wireless. I have run SpyBot, Lavasoft Adaware, Webrooot's Spy Sweeper in addition to several online "bug searchers" and come up clean. I use avast anitvirus as well.

For some reason I'm wondering if this is some type of java thing perhaps? I'm probably just a bit above average on pc knowledge. In other words keep it as simple as possible

Im running windows XP and have IE6 with service pak 2 installed.

Thanks for any help that you may be able to provide!

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.

Download HijackThis from:

HijackThis Download Site

Save this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program named hijackthis.exe. When the program opens click on the Config button, then click on the Misc Tools button, and click on the Check for update online button. When it completes checking/applying updates press the back button.

Now click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.

Create a reply to this post here and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.

Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing.

To see a tutorial with screenshots on using HijackThis you can click on the link below:

How to use HijackThis to remove Browser Hijackers, Malware, & Spyware

Fix these:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {ACB1E670-3217-45C4-A021-6B829A8A27CB} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1

Not sure if that will help. Are you using this for work purposes:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PeerGuardian] D:\PROGRAM FILES\PEERGUARDIAN PR14\PEERGUARDIAN_1.99B_PR14.exe

I am wondering if this might be a active x thing or java? When online I occasionally get the little red x instead of an image. An example of a home site i can get to is

http://espn.go.com/

but when i click on the fantasy at top i get "the page cannot be displayed". Is there possibly a default setting that i have somehow messed up? My son can get to all sites on his pc and he is on same home wireless network.

Thanks for your help, I've been messing around with this for a bit!

Click on tools, Internet options, then click on the connections tab and then lan settings. Is the proxy server enabled?

No doesnt look to be, no check in the box labeled:

Use a proxy server for your LAN

Should it be?

Only box that is checked in LAN settings is the one that says

Automatic Configuration

Automatically detect settings

Uncheck these two:

Automatic Configuration

Automatically detect settings

See if that helps..prob wont but should not be checked

Ok changes made and your right no difference, on the auto detect for some reason I'm thinking I did that for the router for some reason?

At this point I'm thinking about about trying to set my internet options/advanced tab to match my sons pc as well as the internet options/security/custom levels.

Got any more ideas?

Thanks for your continued patience!

I think thats probably a good idea to try. Its ery possible there is a config setting that you need that I just do not know about due to your setup
