Hi all

I just put a second SCSI card (aha 2930cu) in a server I am trying to put online. At boot it show the card and all six drives (1 CR-RW, and 5-HDs). They were all formated together with the SCSI format utility. The OS is Windows NT 4.0 sp6a with all the website updates. Any ideas ?

Make sure you install the drivers for the scsi card. Is this a new install or existing install?

The drver for the first card is the same as for the one I just put in . The computer see it at BOOT but won't install it. Could there be a problem that both use the same driver?? Should I get a SCSI card that uses a different driver?? hhmmmm
Yhis is like working in 3.11 again. I am spoiled with WIN 98 & XP.

No i think the problem may be a scsi conflict. Explain how you everything hooked up? What drives are connected to what card? Duplicate scsi ids?

OK here we go . The spec. first

Hp LC3 NetServer Primary onboard SCSI controller Drives AIC-7880 on IRQ 09
BUS: 00h Device: 0Ah Drive 1 SCSI ID 0
Drive 2 SCSI ID 1
Drive 3 SCSI ID 3
AIH-7880 controller SCSI ID 7 Controller

Add-in card SCSI controller AHA-2930cu also on IRQ 09
BUS: 01h Device: 03h LUN: 0H
Drive 1 SCSI ID 0 (CD-RW)
Drive 2 SCSI ID 1 HD
Drive 3 SCSI ID 2 HD
Drive 4 SCSI ID 3 HD
Drive 5 SCSI ID 4 HD
AHA-2930CU controller SCSI ID 7 Controller
I think the share IRQs maybe the problem but I cannot figure out how to change them. When I go it WindowsNT It show the AIH-7880 on IRQ 40 . ????? Never seen that. But this is the first server I have every worked on. The aha 2930 does not show up.

Sorry to ask an obvious question but.. Did you check/change the jumpers on your new card? From what I understand, you have both cards installed so maybe there is a conflict . Are you sure drivers are the same for both cards?

Hi thanks for the responce. The card has no jumpers. As far as the drivers all the downloads I have come across show them to be the same.AIH-7880 & AHA-2930cu. I changed the PCI slot and the computer reasigned a new IRQ, to IRQ 10.
It still won't show up in the hardware. The drives won't list in my computer. This is my first time working with WindowsNT Server. Is there an install procedure I am missing??

Try to change the controllers so they use different scsi ids. Also check the bios to see if you can assign irqs based on slot

I moved the card and it changed the IRQ to 10 , and I changed the embedded controller's ID from 7 to 2. I left the second card's ID at 7.
WindowsNT still does not see it. The computer's BIOS see the second controller and all drives attached to it .
I had a 386sx25 w/ DOS 4.01 that had a simular problem with a modem , but I don't remember how I fixed it.
If you can think of anything else I'll be monitoring this POST.Thanks for your help.

The only thing I can thing of is NT wants a different driver for this particular card. What is the exact model number of the two cards. Not what is displayed on the screen when you boot up, but whats displayed on the card

The embedded controller is suppose to be AIC-7880 . The card I installed has Adaptec AHA-2930CU printed on it.
Both confirm the same information from the SCSI BIOS druing boot. Other than that I can say. The drivers are cryptic at best so I have to rely on the download sites description. Sorry I could not be more helpful. I am not a novice but when I did a clean install should not NT prompted me for the drivers?? This is my first experiance with NT. It does not have a device manger so this is alittle difficult for. Thanks for your time .

The copy rigths on this software appear to be 1996. I know several buinesses locally that still use it . This verison , to be accurate , is WindowsNT 4.0 Server sp6.
The interface is base on Win95. I picked up a Retail Server pack with four workstation LIC. for $40 . The workstation is alot more secure than 95/98.ME. I'm trying to set the server up for my kids. My intentions are to have LAN Parties . I puchase and old HP LC3 server and a 6 disk array (NAS). For some unknown reason WinNT won't see my secondary SCSI card. Thanks for you intrest.

No NT40 had very limited plug and play ability and you had to install each driver manually.
Use this driver:

http://download.adaptec.com/scsi/windows/7800wnt.exe

Follow these instructions:

http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/s...ndows_NT_driver
