for the 2nd time in a month my cd burner no longer exists in my hp pavillion 7955, i wiped the hard drive the 1st time and reinstalled everything back xp home sp2, it worked for about 3 weeks, and yesterday it is gone again....my windows media player says device not found, it is not in my device manager anymore either....

Hi bigwiggler and welcome to BC.

What is the configuration of your drives ie master/slave? Have you checked and or changed the cable? Can you see the drive in Windows Explorer or read any CD's from there? What burning program are you using? Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling that?
