There's a table down the page like this:

ThinkPad system Driver download link Video driver version
G40 Intel 852GM 6.14.10.4277 or later
G41, R50e, X40 Intel 852GME, 855GM/GME 6.14.10.3943 or later
R31 Intel 830M 6.13.01.3205a or later
R51 (2883, 2887, 2888, 2889, 2894, 2895) Intel 852GM/GME, 855GM/GME 6.14.10.3943 or later
X30 Intel 830MG 6.13.01.3371 or later

Click on the Intel name to the right of your model number.

I gather so far that you have a IBM lenovo thinkpad note book. You can find the exact model number by going to this site IBM Lenovo support site if you go to the site with the laptop you can autodetect what the exact model number it is. If you cant get to the site on the laptop, use another computer and click on the link for thinkpad and it will show you where the model number is. (its on the bottom black and white sticker with a barcode There will be 4 numbers followed by a hyphen then 3 letters)

Here is a llink to the emachine download page http://www.e4me.com/support/product_suppor...amp;model=T1742

you need to download the chipset driver, install it, restart the machine. Once you have restarted the computer, set the graphics to VGA mode, then download the graphics driver and install that driver, restarting as necessary.
The name says it all -- 59 and holding permanently
