Is it possible to put a password on a folder so that the folder will require the password to open but once open the files therein will not require a password?

you can do with the software "Folder Guard" and it easily available on Internet.

Try it.

Password protecting in XP Professional:
Select the folder you wish to encrypt.
Right-click the folder and click Properties.
Click the Advanced button.
Check "Encrypt contents to secure data" option.
Click Apply and then OK.

Password protecting in XP Home:
Select the folder you wish to encrypt.
Right-click the folder and click Properties.
Click the Sharing tab.
Check the box next to "Make this folder private".
Click Apply and then OK.

I have seen some problem regarding 'Password Protecting' of Windows folders. That even if you enter exactly the same password, you will not be able to get into the folder. Just take note of it.
