I was wondering if there is any type of program that I can get (preferably free) that will allow me to send a pop-up or message to another computer on my network?

Built into XP is 'messenger' that was it's initial intent is what you ask. However malware writers found a way to exploit it, but it's right there waiting for you. Well it is, if you have XP on your network.

Have you tried Window's NetSend? It comes with XP.

"Stickies" has this ability although I have never tried it
