Welcome to BC :thumbsup:

Why do you think you have a rootkit????

Because AVG alerted on some stuff and I did some research and it said it was part of a possible root kit. I read a lot on this forum and tried some of the recommended tools and they found some more stuff which I removed. Sorry I did not include the specifics but I attempted to clean my PC myself first and then just figured I'd post my final HJT log and see if anyone saw anything suspicious in it. I am hopeful it is clean but I just wanted to ask the experts.

I already use & keep updated Spybot (with host entries), spyware blaster, windows defender, adaware, and AVG (AV, root, & anti-spyware).

I used some of those command line EXE cleaners as posted in some of the other posts and they also removed some stuff. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to a clean log but if not please advise.

Well, rootkits will not be visible in Hijackthis. Do you recall what infections you had??

Download rootchk by Ejvindh to your desktop.
  • Temporarily Disable Real Time Monitoring Programs you have running that are listed here, such as TeaTimer, Adwatch, and HIPs programs like Prevx, while we complete the fixes (see **Note below).
  • Disconnect from the internet
  • Double click rootchk.exe to run the program
  • After a short time a logfile will open.
  • Copy the contents of the log into your next reply.
  • Re-enable active protection on any program you have disabled while completing the scan
**Note:If you are using the ZoneAlarm Pro firewall or any other security program that protects your registry (Teatimer, Adwatch, Prevx), rootchk may produce false positives. That is why it is important for you to disable these programs before running a rootchk scan. To prevent ZoneAlarm Pro conflicts, first enable the Windows Firewall (click start | Control Panel | Windows Firewall and select the checkbox to turn it on). Then disable ZoneAlarm Pro before running the rootchk. Also, disable any other active protection programs including HIPs that block registry write access. After the scan, be sure re-enable ZoneAlarm Pro and any other active protection programs you have temporarily disabled.

That didn't detect anything, but that doesn't mean your clean.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Running good; thanks. Except for the fact I get sysdump occasionally when playing my favorite online war game. Also I have media portal installed and I think that might be the cause of my MPEG codec having issues. Some mpgs will play & some won't but this stuff was going on before I got the nasty malware. Otherwise it runs great for an old home built machine. I feel better now that you have looked at my HJT log!

Just be careful of the free codec's because a lot of virus are bundled with free codec's. Your Welcome.
