Hi,
My PC (XP Home) was running just fine until 3 days ago when something called "System Live Protect" installed itself and caused pop up mayhem. I did some Googling and, following advice, put the system into safe mode and ran every spyware/ vius checker that I have (so tha's AdAware, Spybot and Symantec Antivirus). I also did a file search and deleted all the "ipmon" entries. This, at least, got rid of the icon in the task bar.
However it seems to have left a whole host of spyware/trojans (Astakiler, Torpig, TagASaurus, Smitfraud, amongst others) that, no matter how much safe mode stuff and removal programs I try, won't shift. Symantec will quarentine everything, but it all reappears on rebooting! I ran the Vundofix.exe program and one that claimed to get rid of something called Purityscan (a real pain!).
I also turned off System Restore as advised. This, I now realise, means that all the restore points get wiped, so I cn't do a rollback.

The biggest problem is that I now cannot run IE7 as something makes it close down almost immediately. I'm now using Firefox (I'd rather use IE7 again though!). Also, upon booting, the following error box appears, "Error Loading. C:\WINDOWS\system32\mwnywgfk.dll The specified module could not be found , this means nothing to me (I'm not very technical) but, I imagine, can't be good!

When last in Safe Mode I ran hijack this and have posted the log below. If anyone who knows this stuff (which is why I'm here!) can cast an eye over it and tell me if I'm doomed or not I would be extremely grateful! I'm hoping there's some way to make it all nice again without the hassle of reformatting and starting over.

Thanks for reading and here's the log

Mark

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I spent this morning fiddling with various scans again. I ran them all in safe mode, but it seemed like the same story as before. However, since the last reboot, the Symantec Antivirus hasn't popped up to alert to the presense of Purityscan and its cronies. Also, when I run Vundofix, it reports that there is nothing to be found. I also ran VundoBeGone.exe which gave me a log file at the end so I'll nclude that below.
I'm still having to use Firefox though, as IE7 is still being forced to close (even when it's not running the "...has encountered a problem and needs to close" box appears! So, there are still some major problems!

Here's the Hijackthis log,

Hi,

It seems to be a lot better now, so many thanks, it would surely still be in a state without your help! The only thing that happening now is that sometimes it seems to lose the server and so "can't display the webpage", but I assume this is just our network playing up and not my PC anymore (unless there're still things there that shouldn't be!?).
One other thing while I remember, should I delete all these little .exe downloads once everything is fixed (like the Smitfraudfix.exe for example) or should I keep all the "fixing tools" I've downloaded?

Here's the SuperAntiSpyWare log;

Your log is clean
If all's ok,please do the following:

Find and delete:
VundoFix.exe
Combofix
SmitfraudFix
Avenger
DelDomains.zip
Deldomains.inf

C:\QooBox
C:\Avenger
C:\!KillBox
C:\VundoFix Backups

Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
In the 'System Restore' window, click on the 'Create a Restore Point' button, then click 'Next'.
In the window that appears, enter a description\name for the Restore Point, then click on 'Create',wait, then click 'Close'.
The date and time will be created automatically.

Next click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
The 'Select Drive' box will appear, click on Ok.
The 'Disk Cleanup for [C:]' box will appear, click on the 'More Options' tab.
At the bottom in the 'System Restore' window, click on the 'Clean up...' button.
A box will pop up 'Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?',click on 'Yes'.
Click on 'Yes' at 'Are you sure you want to perform these actions?'.
Now wait until 'Disk Cleanup' finishes and the box disappears.

Read through the information found here,to help you prevent any possible future infections.

Thank you so much for all your help. Everything seems to be working now (I'll stay clear of warez and crack sites from now on!). It's very stressful for us not-so-technically-minded types when the computers start acting up so it's a great reassurance to know that there are good folk like you out there who can bail us out with your expertise!

Thanks again,
Mark
