Can someone please explain to me as to why, when I open up Windows Task Mananger, that under the Physical Memory (MB) it shows....

Physical Memory (MB)

Total 2029
Cached 1561
Free 0

I have 2 GHz of DDR2 PC3200 667 MHz RAM

What would be causing this and how do I fix it? The task Manager is showing that I have 52 processes running.

Cheers

Which of the processes has high memory numbers in the Processes tab of Task Manager (be sure to select "Show Processes from All Users")?

FWIW - I had normal memory numbers in Task Manager when playing Halo2 for Vista. Checking the IO Reads column showed that csrss.exe was going way overboard with that. Terminating Halo2 didn't fix it - but a reboot did. I suspect it to be an issue with Halo2 and my PC but haven't figgered it out yet.

OK, I have quite a few, but I think I need them all..........

avgrssvc.exe 18,924 k
firefox.exe 29,136 k
svchost.exe 48,628 k
svchost.exe 17,012 k

Everything else is quite low. Is it right to have two svchost.exe?

At the bottom of the TASK MANAGER it has.................

PROCESSES: 53 CPU USAGE: 4% PHYSICAL MEMORY: 29%

Is this OK?

53 processes is an awful lot, but they shouldn't account for 2 gB considering the stat's that you've related (my Firefox is at 110,000 right now).

Note that the last line of your post states "Physical Memory: 29%" - that says that only 29% of your physical memory is being used.

So, being ever so curious, I opened up my Task Manager and found the same thing! Where'd my 4 gB of RAM go? OMG!!!!

A bit of googling led to this link (see the "Watching Superfetch" thingie about 1/4 of the way down the page): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/technetma...el/default.aspx

So now I can breathe easy - it's normal and it's actually a better way of monitoring it than in XP!

I truly do love a happy ending!
