Lately, my computer has been freezing at random times, whether im doing work on Microsoft Word or playing some games or doing nothing. I tried like alot of things to stop it. I used Trend Micro AntiVirus to search for viuses and there happens to be no viruses. Also, I used Webroot Spy Sweeper to find the spyware and get rid of them, but that didn't solve it.

To descriibe exactly what happens, the screen willl still show but everything just STOPS. Nothing would function like the keyboard pr the mouse. I would end up having to hold on the power button for a few seconds to shut it off.

I even tried using programs like RecCure to fix it but nothing works.

Can anyone PLEASE help? Thanks.

Edit: And if you need to know, the computer is around two years old.

Looks like video card problem to me.

Check event viewer and post your last four error here.

Right click My Computer > Manage > on the left you will be able to see Event Viewer

What is your video card brand and model? Have you update the driver?

In event viewer, which category do i look under: Application Internet Explorer, Security, or System?

And once i choose the right one, how would I know which one is the problem?

And about the video card: how do i see the information on it?

(Sorry about all the questions)

It's okay with all those questions.

Application AND System.
I have no idea which one too, just post those errors here.

And about the video card: how do i see the information on it?

So many errors, so little time!

I suspect your game emulator and the files that you've installed to use it - but this is just a guess on my part. It would help if you could link the time of the freeze with the time of an error - then we'd have a definite direction to work in.

Hey, how'd you know? Do emulators cause computer freezing?

Usually the cause of a problem like this is a poorly designed program - in this case I suspect the emulator because I've had problems with them in the past. I found it by looking at the file names in the errors that you posted and then googling the one's that I didn't know.

Well the emulators I use are VisualBoy advance (for gameboy advance), Project 64 (for Nintendo 64), iDeaS (for Nintendo DS), NO$GBA (for gameboy advance/Nintendo DS), ePSXe (for PlayStation), DeSmuME (for Nintendo DS), dsemu (for Nintendo DS), dualis (for Nintendo DS), and nestopiaA (for Nintendo NES).

EDIT: Well coming to think of it, i notice the epsxe is showing up on some of the error messages. Could it still make it freeze even though i'm not using the specific emulator?

Yes it can - although you're not using that emulator, the program is still running (otherwise it couldn't crash) and it can cause conflicts. Try disabling them from running at startup to see if that fixes it. Some of them won't exit when you're done using them, so you may have to close them manually.

How do i do that? And could it work if i just simply delete the program?

Deleting the program is the surest way to try and fix the problem - but there's no guarantees that this is the exact cause (although I do offer you a money-back guarantee on what you've paid me! It's a matter of trial and error until you find the one that's causing it.

The number one cause of random freezes is bad RAM. Electronics can and does go bad in a random manner. Google for and download the Memtest+ RAM diagnostic in its ISO file format. Burn it to a new CD using Nero or another burning program that can handle ISO files. ISOBurner is a freeware burner program you can use. Once the CD is burned you need to boot your system with the CD in the primary optical drive. Make sure beforehand that the BIOS is configured to try to boot from the optical drive before it tries to boot from the hard drive. RAM is considered to be OK if Memtest+ runs for 3 complete iterations without any errors.

If Memtest+ fails and you have more than 1 RAM stick installed then run Memtest+ on only one stick installed at a time to determine the bad module(s). I hope your RAM fails - then you would know for sure what's causing the problem.
