My firewall icon, Keiro, does not always appear in my taskbar when I boot up. I have got round the problem by opening the Sunbelt Software folder in my Program Files and ‘shortcutting’ the ‘kpf4ss’ file to my desktop. I look for the taskbar Keiro icon when I boot up and if it isn’t there I double click the desktop icon and, hey presto, the taskbar icon appears and Keiro is up and running.

Removing and reinstalling Keiro makes no difference. I have discussed the problem with Sunbelt Software and it is still there. That does not worry me but I sometimes forget to look for the taskbar icon, and that does.

What I need is a big, bold, block letters, desktop reminder to check that the Keiro firewall is switched on. Something that appears on my desktop when I boot up and stays there till I decide to close it.

An audible alarm that will stay audible until Keiro is working will help, but I would rather have a quiet, bold, desktop reminder.

Can it be done?

Best wishes,

Open up Notepad and change the Font to something big and bold.
Create the reminder and save it as (for example) 1.txt
Add it to your Startup folder.
When Windows starts, it'll load the text file and display your message - and will stay there until you close it.

BTW - is the icon just not showing? Check the Task Manager to see if the process is actually running, but not showing in the tray.

Thank you Usasma,

Yes, the Keiro file kpf4ss.exe is in the Processes list in the Windows Task Manager and it growls when I poke it. The big and bold Notepad reminder is just the ticket.

Best wishes and again, many thanks,

If the process is running in Task Manager, then the firewall should be active. I'd suggest testing to see if it does block what you want it to block - and then leave it be (or switch to another firewall).
