On this one computer running Windows XP SP2, double clicking on a folder icon in Windows Explorer brings up a search window. Also, the context menu for a folder (right click) shows SEARCH as the first option. All other computers I've used open the folder with double clicking.

My question is "How can I modify the system so that double click opens the folder instead of a search window?"

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. When I clicked on the .reg file, I got some kind of error message that skid quickly up the right side of my screen. It was too fast for me to read even after several trials. The message was in a square box - white with light ble borders. Any ideas?

Try it again, but this time have your finger ready to click the Print Screen key, when the window pops up.
Then open an image editing program, click Edit/Paste, and you should be able to see what the message box had to say.

Have you tried a System Restore, to a date before this problem occurred?

It worked.

The error message was from an old beta-version of Microsoft Antispyware which I have now uninstalled.

After processing the .reg file, double clicking on a folder opens it just as I want.

Thanks for removing a great source of my frustration.
