Hi,

I am grateful for the expert support, I had been provided when umpteen Pop-ups were arising.

Now I have been infected by a Malware which has blocked and disabled the Home Page Selection Button in Internet Options of Internet Explorer and the Home page is directed to a malware website " hxxp://quicknews.info " and opening all Pornographic promotional windows.

Further under the advanced Tab, No java settings are available, and Microsoft Virtual java is also missing.

Please help me.

Hereunder I have appended with the Hijack this Log

Download KillBox,unzip/extract it to your desktop.
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/spyware/KillBox.zip
Start up Killbox and place a check in 'Delete on Reboot'.
In the 'Full path of file to delete' box, copy and paste:

C:\WINDOWS\system\svchost.exe

Then press the red button with the white cross.
It will then provide a window for you to confirm the delete.
Next it will ask if you now wish to reboot, select YES.
Allow it to reboot.
If it does'nt reboot automatically, reboot manually.

****************************

Copy and paste the following bold blue text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: fix.reg to your desktop.
Then double click on the fix.reg file on your desktop and agree to merge it into the registry, then reboot.

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"Shell"="explorer.exe"
"Userinit"="C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,"

Post a new Hijackthis log please.

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting 'Fix checked'.
Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing:
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1

Exit Hijackthis, restart your pc and try the registry fix again.

In the Windows of the Windows Explorer I am unable to find "Folder Options" Under Tools in the Menu. I am running Windows XP Pro.

First back up the registry by doing the following:
Click on Start>Run,copy and paste the following bold text into the 'Open:' space, then press Ok.
regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may have an hour glass along side it for a minute or so.
Please be patient and continue when the hour glass disappears.

Click on Start/Run,then type regedit then press Ok.
Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Double click on the key 'Winlogon'.
In the right hand side window scroll down to,then double click on the value "Userinit".

In the opening 'Edit String' box, edit the 'Value data' to read exactly, including the comma on the end:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,

Press Ok when you've done, exit regedit, restart your pc.

In the Windows of the Windows Explorer I am unable to find "Folder Options" Under Tools in the Menu. I am running Windows XP Pro.

I am surprised to notice that the "Run" is missing in the Start Menu. I tried the Properties of the Start Menu and found no option to add the same.

Can I run the "regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg" command in Command Prompt? If so please guide.

Thanks for this extensive Guidance.

I had completed all the Registry tasks provided after enabling the "Run" on the Start Menu.

The Home Page Option Buttons got enabled in the Internet Explorer. AMAZING!

What I could not achieve was :

1. In the Internet Explorer the Java Settings are missing under Advanced Tabs of Internet Options. Only Microsoft VM is available with only one option (Ticked) indicating "Display Java Applets Blocked Dialog". With this any page requiring java does not perform and only the Alert is dispalyed.

2. In this WindowsXP Pro operating system the folder options are still not available in the Menu Bar under View tab.

Please Guide Further.

In the Internet Explorer the Java Settings are missing under Advanced Tabs of Internet Options.

Download/unzip the registry file thats attached below to your desktop.
Double click on that unzipped file and agree to merge it into the registry, then reboot.

the folder options are still not available in the Menu Bar under View tab.

Copy and paste the following bold blue text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: fixA.reg to your desktop.
Then double click on the fixA.reg file on your desktop and agree to merge it into the registry, then reboot.

If still no joy,and you have the MS Windows XP install disk.
Click Start>Run,type sfc /scannow then press Ok.
Leave a space in between sfc and /scannow
Reboot when you've done.

Hats off to you guys. It is heartening to see my PC healthy and funtioning normally. I am unsuccessful in finding words to praise you guys and the portal Bleeping Computer.

It is truely AMAZING. I had no need to run the command on the windows CD, the problem got simply corrected with the Registry Code provided by you.

Finally I have a very minor problem which I did not post as I had more important issues to be solved. Please bear with me and help me to have this too cleared.

I had once formatted (not now) the disc and reloaded the Windows. Since then when ever I start or restart the computer I am presented with option to choose the operating system, where as only one operating system is running on my Computer - Windows XP Professional.

Out of the two options one is dummy and that is being default Option, the PC remains there itself without proceeding further with the Windows. It has to be manually chosen to the next potion by pressing DownArrow Key once and then pressing Enter.

Will you please help me to correct this too.

Regards and innumerable thanks especially to you and to all there in Bleeping Computer.

Immortal

PS

Finally once again the Hijack this Log, if at all you required.

Hi

When I followed your instructions few more lacunae in my system have surfaced.

1.When I tried to run msconfig, an alert appeared indcdicating "Windows unable to find msconfig"

2.When I tried to create a System restore point I could understand that "rstui.exe" for System Restore is missing and a search appeared searching hte same ending in failure.

I had run HijackThis and checked and deleted got those entries specified by you.

I had downloaded the ATF Cleaner and got the PC Cleaned.

Now I am sad to share with you that even after so many excersices troubling you all the way testing your patience, none of the java applets are running in those webpages containing them.

I logged in java website (http://java.com/en/) which gives a online test of the PC for JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and the results were negative.

When I downloaded "j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586-iftw.exe" and tried to install, I was prompted by an alert in the windows installer indicating "The Installation Package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or cintact the application vendor that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

But I was successful in installing "jre-6u1-windows-i586-p-s.exe" which I downloaded subsequently from Java site. Now ater this I get a message in the Status bar of IE that "Loading Java Applet Failed".

Please help.

Sorry to extend this thread futher, seeking pardon and help.

Regards.

Immortal
