My monitor today started showing what looks to be like American flags. There are red and blue things which flash on and off on the screen. They even display when windows is still be loaded - I think. I tested the monitor on another computer and it works fine. I have checked all cables and everything is plugged in all the way.

When going into a game which changes the resolution, more of these 'flags' appear.

This first started happening after I opened a song file that I downloaded from Limewire. However, it probably isn't related.

Here is a screenshot of whats happening: http://www.mypicstudio.com/out.php/i227_update.JPG

Did you recently move something next to your monitor that has a strong magnetic field (such as speakers)?

I tend to disagree with this statement - of the hundreds of infected PC's that I've seen lately, a good majority have LimeWire installed. Of those with LimeWire only 2 have not had infections. It's not the LimeWire that's the problem - it's the stuff that's downloaded that's the problem.

I'd suggest starting with these free, online scans:

No, there are not speakers or anything changed near my monitor. Check out this recent screen. It thinks I have 4bit color and small resolution. I can't change these, but its not really those.

Depending on the virus, it can disable your antivirus while making it seem like it's running. That's what happened to my friend's computer that I'm still trying to remove all the viruses from (I've been working on it for 5 days now). It's essential to double check to ensure that your protection hasn't been compromised.

You can also try updating your video drivers by going to the website of the manufacturer of your video card. Sometimes the drivers get corrupted and a reinstallation of them will fix problems with them.

Its not a virus. When using a different video card it works fine. This video card used to work, has worked for a few months. I am now contacting the company XFX to see if I can get a new card.
