I am anti-keylogger for kids - IMO it teaches them that it's OK to spy on others (it also teaches them to hide their tracks better). Because it's for their own good isn't reason enough (again IMO) - that's the same reasoning that's been used to deprive people of things throughout history.
If you're suspicious and they delete their History, etc - take away the computer for a period of time. That's a consequence for being sneaky - not for visiting prohibited sites.
But, be aware that there are easy ways that the kids can use to 1) hide their keystrokes and 2) to hide the location of the sites that they're surfing to.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able. - John
