Hello All:

I am trying to restore my pc using the Complete PC Restore. My hd failed and I have installed the new one. I resinstalled Vista and made sure it recongized my usb hd (WD My Book). Now when I boot to the Vista cd and select Restore Entire PC, I receive and error that "No valid back up location could be found". It does not let me browse to the external hd and select the image files i created.

I tried to move the files around on the drive without any luck. the backup created 1 file called MediaID, a folder called Catalog with a few files in it and another folder called backup 2007-02-23 with a bunch of files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried launching PC Restore from within Vista? It may have something to do with the current installation (although I'm unsure why) being in place.

Another option, since it doesn't recognize your MyBook, would be to copy the files to a separate partition on your hard drive so that you can access it.

Why it doesn't recognize your MyBook - I haven't a clue. It worked with mine (500 gB Essential Edition) the one time that I tried it.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
